Courts Fees Update
Dear Courts Member,
While we did not make any changes to fees in 2024, this year you will notice that your invoice reflects an increase in membership rates as well as a change in how other fees are applied. Here’s the scoop…

Fee Changes
Courts Membership Fees for 2025 are increasing and will be inclusive of the Volunteer Deposit going forward. (Until now, the Volunteer Deposit has always been managed as a separate fee.)
-
the previous “core” Courts membership fee from $340 to $390
-
the “volunteer deposit” from $165 to $175 and credit for each volunteer hour worked in 2025 (and going forward) will increase from $33 to $35 dollars to a maximum of 5 hours
-
the total “blended” Courts Membership fee is now $565, an increase of 12%.

The Courts "Extended" Membership, which covers one additional primary adult family member living at the Member's on-island address, is increasing from $50 to $60. This fee has not seen an increase since 2021.
Why all of these changes?
Courts Memberships have not been growing at the anticipated rate and instead have remained essentially flat since the courts re-opened in 2021. Maintenance costs continue to increase year over year and and we want to get ahead of things by initiating more planned maintenance and hopefully, more improvements over time.

Simplifying our accounting processes has become more important for a number of reasons:
-
The volume of Court and Club members joining and leaving each year have increased significantly over the past 5 years. This “churn” and the corresponding effort to manage accounts has been greater than it has ever been in the past
-
Our accounting software is now integrated with the new membership/website platform. Simplifying fee structures helps us more easily manage technical integrations as well as offer online payment options.

What was that about online payments?
Our invoicing process has been based on electronic invoices and e-transfers for some years now due to the high costs associated with accepting credit card payments. Since going live with our new membership/website platform, we now have access to an electronic payment system with a low 3% service fee and we are introducing the following:
-
Tunstall Bay online shop - If you are ok with a 3% fee, you can skip the cheque or etransfer process and pay your 2025 invoice online by credit card or Google Pay
-
Late payments - Any payments for annual courts fees that are not received by February 28, 2025 will need to be paid at the Tunstall Bay online shop which will have the 3% service fee included
-
Other products coming soon: Additional fobs can also be purchased at the online store and we hope to introduce new products over time.
